The need of Compressed Air Dryer:
Air Quality Is vital to the production process and thereby to the end product the purity of air In the pneumatic system Is a quantifiable parameter according to ISO 85734 and It Is measured based on The presence of contaminants such as oil. Water and solid particles. These three major contaminants are orIgInating from the compressor and pipelines. These contaminants are safely and reliably removed by Summits High-Pressure Adsorption Dryer.

Schematic Illustration:
  • Main Change over Valve pneumatic actuator switches the adsorber columns from drying to regeneration cycle and back.
  • Exhaust valves with pneumatic actuators vent out the regeneration gas.
  • Main beck pressure valves control the flow of gas to bed.
  • Regeneration back pressure valves control the flow of regeneration gas.
  • Pressure reducing valve (Single stage or two stages depends on the pressure), reduces the pressure for regeneration and pneumatic control lines.
  • Orifice for limited volumetric flow for regeneration.
  • Drying towers with superior quality desiccant which ensure the desired outlet air quality.

Operation:
Wet compressed air enters the drying tower from pre & oil removing filters at the bottom of drying tower and is directed through Main Changeover Valve. The wet air encounters dry desiccant and moisture is transferred from the air to the desiccant. The direction of air flow during drying is up flowing. Design of the towers prevents fluidization of the desiccant. At the top of the dryer, the dry processed air is directed to the after filter through Main Back Pressure Valve. A small quantity of dry air Is directed to the regenerating tower through Pressure Reducing Valve, Orifice end Regeneration Beck Pressure Valve where It Is further depressurized to atmospheric pressure and Is used to regenerate the desiccant after removing the moisture from the desiccant, the purge air exits the dryer through Exhaust Valve and Muffler. After a preset time, the dryer shifts towers. At tower shift, the regenerating tower is gradually repressurized, the Main Changeover Valve sequentially shifts and the off-stream tower are depressurized. The Changeover and Exhaust Valves are controlled by solenoid valves through a Programmable Logic Controller.

    The need of Compressed Air Dryer:
    The compressed air leaving a compressor contains considerable quantities of water vapor. If the untreated air is supplied into the distribution lines, the moisture would condense to liquid water as it gets cooled. Condensed water is a major cause of downtime in compressed air systems. Air quality which was good enough for the old hand controlled valves or wide tolerance air tools is just not dry enough when used in today's sophisticated air systems. Water causes rust, pitting, blockages and freezes ups, with resultant component failure and product rejection. The only way to prevent condensation of water in airlines is to lower the dew point of the air in the system. It is less expensive to own and operate an air dryer than it is to live with the problems it can prevent. Drying compressed air doesn't cost . . . . it saves.

    Operation:

The wet air encounters dry desiccant and moisture is transferred from the air to the desiccant. The direction of air flow during drying is upflowed; design of the towers prevents fluidization of the desiccant. Approximately ten percent of the dry air is directed into the regenerating tower where it is depressurized to atmospheric pressure and is used to regenerate the desiccant. After removing the moisture from the desiccant, the purge air exits the dryers through a muffler and is blown out to the atmosphere. After a preset time based on the electronic controller, the dryer shifts towers. At tower shift, the regenerating tower is gradually repressurized, the switching valve sequentially shifts and the off-stream tower is depressurized. The switching and exhaust valves are controlled by solenoid valves.

    Summits Refrigerated Air Dryers remove the moisture to a level of 600 ppm(w) by using energy efficient refrigeration system and effective heat exchangers. The wet air enters into the economizer (pre cooler) of the refrigerated air dryer and the temperature gets reduced significantly by the outgoing cold air. This medium temperature air further enters in to the evaporator of therefrigerated air dryer and the temperature drops to 2oC by the cold refrigerant. At this temperature the moisture in the vapour form condenses into liquid and the same is separated by high efficient integral moisture separator and automatic drain trap.     How refrigerated air dryers work?

    • The wet air enters into the economiser (pre-cooler) of the Refrigerated Air Dryer and the temperature gets reduced significantly by the outgoing cold air.
    • This medium temperature air further enters in to the evaporator of the Refrigerated Air Dryer and the temperature drops to 2ºC by the cold refrigerant.

    Pneuzorb comprises of top bottom valve blocks and extruded aluminum twin chambers filled with desiccant, which dries the compressed air as it passes through. One chamber is drying, while the other chamber is regenerating using the Pressure Swing Adsorption Principle. The change over is automatic and controlled by the micro processor based controller. A small amount of the dried compressed air is used to regenerate the saturated desiccant bed by expanding the dry air from line pressure to atmospheric pressure, removing moisture adsorbed by the desiccant and therefore regenerating the dryer. A particulate cum coalescing filter is installed (optional) before the dryer. After filter cartridges are fitted integrally inside the towers with adequate freeboard space. According to an air quality requirement, suitable microfilter may be installed after the dryer.
